On stage, K-Fed gets upstaged
K-Fed, also known as Mr. Britney Spears and the globe’s most-famous househusband, made his television debut as a big-time rapper on Sunday night but -- wouldn’t you know it? -- he was upstaged by his pregnant wife.
Britney Spears, overflowing in her chiffon mini-dress in every way, got a loud, sustained ovation when she stepped on stage at the Teen Choice Awards at the Gibson Amphitheatre. She told the fans: “This show has been very good to me and my career over the years. And I’m hoping that it will be as good to our next performer.” She also pointedly referred to husband Kevin Federline as “my man,” rebuking rumors of a divorce that would presumably change his nickname to K-Fed-Ex.
The former backup dancer brought plenty of help to the stage -- pyrotechnics, liquid-limbed dancers, a piano, a giant “F” logo, a DJ, backup MC’s -- but the consensus was that the reedy-voiced performer might be better on stage if he just put down that microphone. As dancehall artist Sean Paul told reporters backstage: “I was expecting more dancing from the dude, you know?”
