Philadelphia 6, at Chicago 5: Chase Utley homered and accidentally delivered a hard hit on teammate Aaron Rowand too. Rowand hobbled off the field with a sprained left ankle after colliding with Utley in the eighth inning. Rowand was taken to a hospital for precautionary X-rays. The Phillies moved back to .500 for the first time since June 19 and stayed within 2 1/2 games of Cincinnati in the NL wild-card race.

at Cincinnati 4, Houston 3: Rich Aurilia went four for four with a tying three-run homer in the eighth inning and Royce Clayton hit a run-scoring single that sent the Reds to victory. Aubrey Huff hit two home runs for Houston, which has lost eight of its last 10 games.

at Florida 3, Washington 1: Anibal Sanchez pitched seven solid innings to win for the first time in nearly a month. Sanchez (5-2) gave up one run and four hits in seven innings, walking four and striking out four.

at Atlanta 3, Pittsburgh 0: John Smoltz won his fifth consecutive home start, combining on a four-hitter in the victory. Martin Prado, sent to the minor leagues April 25, was recalled before the game and hit a two-run double.
