Design Funds OKd for Adelanto Jail Expansion
The Board of Supervisors, in a step toward adding 896 beds to the county’s new jail in Adelanto, unanimously approved $4.6 million for the project’s design Tuesday.
County officials said the $86-million expansion, which would add booking, holding and medical screening areas to the jail, could be completed in five years.
The project is intended to ease a space crunch at the county’s four jails, which hold about 5,900 inmates.
It could also cut the number of people transported to the county’s largest jail, West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, for booking, officials said.
