Canucks no match for Avalanche

Tyler Arnason had two goals and an assist Thursday night and the Colorado Avalanche rolled to a 7-3 victory over the Oilers at Edmonton, Canada.

Marek Svatos also scored twice and Ken Klee had three assists for the Avalanche, which climbed over .500 and moved out of last place in the Northwest Division -- only two points behind first-place Edmonton.

Phil Kessel scored on Boston’s seventh attempt in the shootout to give the Bruins a 4-3 victory over Tampa Bay at Boston.... Dany Heatley had two goals and an assist and Ray Emery made 31 saves for Ottawa’s first shutout in a 6-0 victory over visiting Florida.... Rookie defenseman Alexandre Picard had the first two assists of his NHL career and Philadelphia defeated the New York Islanders, 3-2, at Uniondale, N.Y.... Nashville won its fourth in a row with a 5-4 victory at St. Louis.

Justin Williams and Eric Belanger scored less than a minute apart in the third period to lead Carolina past Montreal, 4-2, at Raleigh, N.C.... Olaf Kolzig made 35 saves and Washington edged visiting Dallas, 4-3.... Kari Lehtonen stopped 36 shots and host Atlanta beat Toronto, 5-0, for its first victory over the Maple Leafs in more than three years.

Forward John LeClair was placed on waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins, a move designed to try to move the two-time 50-goal scorer to another team. LeClair, 37, has two goals and five assists in 21 games.
