Bryzgalov is day to day

Any fears that Ilya Bryzgalov or the Ducks had about the injured goaltender were allayed somewhat when no tear was found in his strained groin after an MRI exam Monday.

Bryzgalov did not skate Tuesday and is day to day after leaving in the third period of Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Kings. The Ducks figure to take a wait-and-see approach with the 26-year-old backup as they recalled Michael Wall from their minor league affiliate in Portland, Maine.

About 24 hours earlier, Bryzgalov was fearing the worst.

“I was very worried because when I woke up in the morning, I couldn’t move my leg,” he said.

Bryzgalov hurt his groin when he stretched to make a save on Kings forward Alexander Frolov. Ducks Coach Randy Carlyle said the injury appeared to be related to the one the goalie suffered Nov. 20 during practice, which sidelined him for five games.

“It’s the same side, so you can’t discount that,” Carlyle said. “But it’s not in the same exact area.”

Bryzgalov said he hoped the groin would not become a lingering issue throughout the season.

“I think we have a pretty good trainer here and they’ll try to help me recover as soon as possible,” he said. “I will keep this in my mind and try to do all the things he advises me [to do] and I hope it doesn’t happen again.”

The Ducks and FSN Prime Ticket reached a deal to extend their current contract to run through the 2013-14 season, with the cable channel increasing the minimum number of games it would televise to 50 a season.

The deal supersedes an original agreement that was to end after the 2007-08 season, although there won’t be any changes to the number of broadcasts this season, according to Bob Wagner, the Ducks’ chief marketing officer.

“They are very bullish on our product,” Wagner said. “The bottom line is we’re looking more toward the long term. Our discussions were more along the lines of this deal is coming up, we think there’s a lot of opportunities to go with this and we would like to talk to you now rather than wait until the end of the agreement.”

Prime Ticket is televising 40 Ducks games this season and KDOC (Ch. 56) is televising 30.

Teemu Selanne skipped practice because of flu symptoms Monday night, but Carlyle said he was expected to play tonight against Nashville. Selanne, tied for fourth in the NHL with 34 points, also had a bout with flu at the start of the season.
