Power plant worker plunges to his death
A father of seven plunged to his death while doing maintenance work at a power plant, officials said Sunday.
Donne Ballard, 45, was working at the Castaic Power Plant about 7:30 p.m. Saturday when he slipped and fell about 60 feet, a plant spokesman said. Despite fellow workers’ attempts to revive him, he was declared dead at the scene.
Ballard, who had been working for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power since February, is the father of seven children, including a girl whose birthday was Sunday, the plant spokesman said.
The Castaic facility has been shut down for maintenance since December. The cause of the accident was under investigation, officials said.
