Naming names

Re “Policing the police,” editorial, Feb. 17

Publicly disclosing the names of police officers involved in use-of-force cases implies that the accusation of brutality is true, and that hardly seems fair to those who are risking their lives to protect us.

I’m pretty sure that the alleged victim has learned the name of the involved officer when filing a lawsuit or making a complaint. Why do millions of others need to know the police officer’s name? Who does that protect?
