“I Hate You Simon Cowell”

Nonnie Thompson

www.agitproppr.com

This acoustic ditty from the London musical “Instant Celebrity: Just Add Water” isn’t simply a condemnation of the reviled “American Idol” judge. In between sound bites of Cowell verbally annihilating contestants, the song comes to his defense with unambiguous empathy. Ultimately, however, she reaches the conclusion contained in the cathartic title.

“Two Can Win”

J Dilla

The Detroit trackmaster (who produced under the name Jay Dee for most of his career) died on Feb. 10 -- just three days after his instrumental collection, “Donuts,” hit record stores. “Two Can Win” underscores Dilla’s carefree approach toward musical experimentation with delirious, ecstatic hip-hop soundscapes that, while rooted in the ‘70s, remain timeless.

“Hips Don’t Lie”

Shakira & Wyclef Jean

Commingling their considerable

pop smarts for a bilingual sung/rapped treatise about carnal appetite and the truth-telling virtues of booty-shaking, Colombia’s Grammy-winning chanteuse and the Fugees’ frontman/producer infuse this new single with an infectious Caribbean party vibe.

“Fire Truck”

Revolting Cocks

www.iTunes.com

The lead track on this side project from Ministry’s Al Jourgensen -- the group’s first release since 1993 and which won’t be available off-line until next month -- was co-written with Iggy Pop in the early ‘80s and previously available only on rare live CDs and bootlegs. A standout among the album’s free-form amalgam of art rock, industrial noise and garbage culture in-jokes, “Fire Truck” manages to be catchy, lighthearted and yet still heavy as bricks. Cost: 99 cents.
