Loyola’s Loss Is Its Fifth Consecutive

Junior guard Brandon Heath scored 25 points to lead San Diego State to an 84-68 nonconference victory over Loyola Marymount on Saturday.

Heath made five three-point baskets and had three steals for the Aztecs (7-5). Loyola Marymount (3-11) lost its fifth consecutive game.

San Diego State freshman point guard Richie Williams had his best game of the season, with 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals.

The Aztecs made 10 of 18 three-point attempts and outrebounded the Lions, 42-25.

San Diego State led, 42-30, at halftime before Loyola started the second half with seven consecutive points. The Aztecs countered with a 9-2 run in which Heath scored five points, including a three-pointer that gave the team a 51-39 lead.

Loyola Marymount was led by senior guard Wes Wardrop, who had 19 points and six assists, and sophomore guard Jon Ziri, who added 14.
