* Update: Penn State Coach Joe Paterno has a 6-1 record against Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden. The Nittany Lions are led by quarterback Michael Robinson, who completed 51.8% of his passes for 2,097 yards and 16 touchdowns. Robinson also rushed for 785 yards and 11 touchdowns. Tony Hunt leads the team in rushing with 1,047 yards and Deon Butler is the top receiver with 36 catches for 678 yards. Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny, a junior, won the Bednarik Award as the top defensive player in college football. He leads a unit that has given up only 16.5 points a game. Florida State quarterback Drew Weatherford has had a rocky season, but he played well in the second half of the Seminoles’ upset of Virginia Tech in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. Weatherford, who has 17 touchdown passes along with 17 interceptions, has thrown for 2,962 yards. Lorenzo Booker is the team’s leading rusher with 550 yards. Florida State senior linebacker A.J. Nicholson, the team’s leading tackler, will not play after being dismissed for breaking team rules last week.

* Facts: This is the sixth bowl championship series game in eight years for Florida State. Paterno is the only coach to win the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, Orange and Cotton bowls. Paterno has 353 victories, second to Bowden’s 359.
