Ex-Congressman’s Law License Is Restored
Former Rep. William J. Janklow’s license to practice law was ordered reinstated by the South Dakota Supreme Court in Pierre, two years after it was suspended over a deadly auto accident that ended Janklow’s political career.
A jury found him guilty of manslaughter in 2003 for running a stop sign and killing a motorcyclist. Janklow, who was governor of the state for four terms, served 100 days in jail and cannot drive until his probation is up next January.
The high court said that restoring Janklow’s law license would pose no public threat because the Republican politician’s offenses were unrelated to the practice of law and did not involve fraud or any other dishonesty.
