The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq:

Jason L. Bishop, 31, of Williamstown, Ky.; sergeant first class, Army. Bishop was killed Jan. 1 when a car bomb exploded near his Humvee in Siniya, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Marcelino R. Corniel, 23, of La Puente; specialist, Army National Guard. Corniel was killed Dec. 31 in a mortar attack on his observation post in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry Regiment, Army National Guard in Fullerton.

Shawn C. Dostie, 32, of Granite City, Ill.; sergeant first class, Army. Dostie was killed Dec. 30 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

William F. Hecker III, 37, of St. Louis; major, Army. Hecker was among five soldiers killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Najaf, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Jason Lopezreyes, 29, of Hatillo, Puerto Rico; sergeant, Army. Lopezreyes was one of two soldiers killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Robbie M. Mariano, 21, of Stockton; private, Army. Mariano was among five soldiers killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Najaf, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Michael E. McLaughlin, 44, of Mercer, Pa.; lieutenant colonel, Army National Guard. McLaughlin was killed Thursday while on foot patrol when a suicide bomber detonated explosives near him as he spoke with Iraqi leaders and police candidates at a recruiting station in Ramadi, west of Baghdad. McLaughlin was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division, Army National Guard in Washington, Pa.

Johnny J. Peralez Jr., 25, of Kingsville, Texas; sergeant, Army. Peralez was among five soldiers killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Najaf, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Christopher P. Petty, 33, of Vienna, Va.; captain, Army. Petty was among five soldiers killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Najaf, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Jonathan R. Pfender, 22, of Evansville, Ind.; private, Army. Pfender was killed Dec. 30 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Bayji, south of Mosul. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Ayman A. Taha, 31, of Vienna, Va.; staff sergeant, Army. Taha was killed Dec. 30 when a munitions cache he was preparing for demolition exploded in Balad, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Prince K. Teewia, 27, of Durham, N.C.; specialist, Army. Teewia was killed Dec. 29 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Christopher J. Vanderhorn, 37, of Pierce, Wash.; staff sergeant, Army. Vanderhorn was killed Jan. 1 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee in Siniya, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Ryan D. Walker, 25, of Stayton, Ore.; specialist, Army. Walker was one of two soldiers killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Ft. Stewart, Ga.

Stephen J. White, 39, of Talladega, Ala.; sergeant first class, Army. White was among five soldiers killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee in Najaf, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.
