Oldest Knick Triggers Fifth Straight Victory

Playing their second game in two nights and forced into overtime after blowing an 18-point lead, the New York Knicks needed some energy.

It came from their oldest player.

Antonio Davis, 37, had four points and three rebounds in overtime while playing tough defense on Dirk Nowitzki, and the Knicks beat the Dallas Mavericks, 117-115, on Wednesday night at New York for their fifth straight victory.

Stephon Marbury scored 28 points, Jamal Crawford had 25 and Eddy Curry had 21 for the Knicks, who beat Cleveland on Tuesday night.

“The way we’re approaching the game is totally different,” Marbury said. “We have a lot of confidence. We know we’re going to win.”

New York was forced into overtime after making only seven of 21 shots in the final period.

Nowitzki had 32 points for the Mavericks, whose three-game winning streak ended and who lost to the Knicks for the first time in eight games.

Seattle 113, Orlando 104 -- Rashard Lewis scored a season-high 45 points, and the SuperSonics overcame the second-quarter ejection of leading scorer Ray Allen at Seattle.

Allen was ejected for fighting with Orlando’s Keyon Dooling with 10:53 left in the second quarter.

Jameer Nelson led the Magic with a career-high 32 points off the bench.

Miami 110, Golden State 96 -- Dwyane Wade had 32 points, 11 assists and five rebounds at Oakland to help the Heat win despite making only eight of 19 free-throw attempts -- one of 11 by Shaquille O’Neal. Baron Davis had 26 points for the Warriors, who lost their third in a row while playing for the first time since last Thursday.

Utah 110, Philadelphia 102 -- Mehmet Okur scored 25 points and Andrei Kirilenko had 23, helping the Jazz overcome Allen Iverson’s 46 points to win their third straight road game.

Minnesota 99, Chicago 93 -- Kevin Garnett had 28 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists at Minneapolis, and the Timberwolves held the Bulls without a field goal for nearly six minutes of the fourth quarter to end a three-game losing streak.

Andres Nocioni scored 23 points, and Kirk Hinrich had 17 points, a career-high 17 assists and eight rebounds for the Bulls.

Sacramento 88, Houston 80 -- Mike Bibby and Corliss Williamson scored 19 points apiece to help the Kings beat the Rockets, who have lost four in a row and 11 of 14 home games this season.

The Kings’ Peja Stojakovic aggravated a back injury and left late in the third quarter.

Juwan Howard had 24 points and 15 rebounds for the Rockets.

Indiana 112, Milwaukee 88 -- Stephen Jackson scored 24 points, and the Pacers shot 56% at Indianapolis to hand the Bucks their fourth loss in the last five games. Michael Redd, the Bucks’ leading scorer with a 25-point average coming in, was held to 13 on four-for-15 shooting.

Washington 103, Atlanta 72 -- Donell Taylor scored a career-high 15 points at Washington, and the Wizards outrebounded the Hawks, 52-31, to win for only the second time in their last seven games.

Toronto 95, Charlotte 86 -- Chris Bosh had 29 points and 10 rebounds, and Mike James added 24 points for the Raptors at Toronto. Jumaine Jones had 17 points for the Bobcats.

Detroit Piston guard Carlos Arroyo was suspended for one game by the NBA for bumping an official while protesting his sixth personal foul in Tuesday’s victory over New Orleans.
