Yeah, but It’s Still Not the Mighty Ducks

I was surprised to discover that in negotiating the name clause, the city of Anaheim agreed to Disney’s desire for “creative flexibility” in naming the team. Examples considered included the “Anaheim Gargoyles.”

I can understand how Angel fans might be divided over the change from Anaheim Angels to Los Angeles Angels, but I suspect they would be united in their disdain over a change from Angels to Gargoyles.

I don’t believe for a second that Arte Moreno would even consider removing “Angels” from the name. We obviously can’t say the same for either Disney or the city of Anaheim. It’s clear to me which party stands for the best interest of Angel fans, regardless of ZIP Code.
