Maryland Women Win in Overtime
Marissa Coleman scored five of her 22 points in overtime and No. 6 Maryland opened the extra session with a 10-0 run on its way to an 84-74 victory over Virginia on Friday night in Charlottesville, Va.
Crystal Langhorne added four of her 17 points in overtime for the Terrapins (16-2, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Virginia (12-4, 1-3), coming off a 78-59 victory at No. 18 Virginia Tech, didn’t score for the first 3:12 of the five-minute overtime. When Takisha Granberry broke the drought with the first of two free throws, the Terrapins were already on their way.
No. 25 George Washington 72, Rhode Island 54 -- Jessica Simmonds posted her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead George Washington on the road.
Kenan Cole scored 17 points for George Washington (12-4, 5-0), which won its sixth straight game to remain the only undefeated team in the Atlantic 10. Sarah-Jo Lawrence also scored 17 points.

Utah men’s Coach Ray Giacoletti suspended leading scorer Bryant Markson for one game for undisclosed disciplinary reasons. Markson will sit out today’s game against Nevada Las Vegas.... Arizona plans to offer men’s Coach Lute Olson a contract extension through 2011, according to a report in the Tucson Citizen.
