Frolov Set to Return From Illness

The extended illness that has kept the Kings’ Alexander Frolov sidelined the past week appears to have run its course, as he said he would be in the lineup tonight against the Mighty Ducks.

Frolov, who sat out the last three games because of what were called flu-like symptoms, put in a long skate during an optional workout Sunday. He then pronounced himself fit enough to play.

“I feel better -- it’s time to play again,” said Frolov, whose 17 goals tie him with Craig Conroy for second on the Kings. “It’s not the first time in my life that I have been sick. Sometimes you have to get up and play no matter how you feel. That’s how it works.”

Frolov said he began feeling ill when the team returned home from Buffalo on Jan. 15. He stayed at home with a high fever through most of the week, then tried to skate with the team Friday.

“I was still feeling dizzy,” Frolov said. “If you’re feeling dizzy on the ice, that’s not a good thing. All week, I couldn’t sleep and I felt really weak.

The Kings received encouraging news about Jeremy Roenick and Aaron Miller. Both will travel for Tuesday’s game at San Jose, although neither is expected to play.

“It gets them back into a routine with the team,” Coach Andy Murray said. “They can start getting ready mentally to play again. They go through the film sessions, listen to the coaches in meetings and get bored.”

Roenick, who suffered a broken finger against Vancouver on Dec. 19, worked out Sunday using a stick for the first time since the injury. General Manager Dave Taylor cringed at the sight, saying that Roenick was not supposed to use a stick until next week. But Roenick said, “I’m always ahead of schedule with injuries.”

Roenick said he hoped to play again in a week.

Miller, out since Dec. 23 because of a back injury, said he would rejoin the team for practice today, although he was still a week from playing.

“The important thing is to get in shape,” Miller said. “You get tired out there and that leads to hurting your back.”

Miller said he was unsure whether he would play for the United States in the Olympics.

“All I know is I’m preparing to play for the Kings,” Miller said. “The rest will take care of itself.”
