The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq:

Lewis T.D. Calapini, 21, of Waipahu, Hawaii; private, Marine Corps. Calapini was one of two Marines killed Monday in a nonhostile vehicle accident near Taqaddum, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the Anti-Terrorism Battalion, 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Lance M. Chase, 32, of Oklahoma City; staff sergeant, Army. Chase was one of two soldiers killed Monday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Abrams tank while on patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Jerry M. Durbin Jr., 26, of Spring, Texas; staff sergeant, Army. Durbin was killed Wednesday when an improvised explosive device detonated near him while on foot patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Dennis J. Flanagan, 22, of Inverness, Fla.; sergeant, Army. Flanagan was among four soldiers killed Jan. 20 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee while on patrol in the northern town of Hawijah. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Matthew C. Frantz, 23, of Lafayette, Ind.; specialist, Army. Frantz was among four soldiers killed Jan. 20 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee while on patrol in the northern town of Hawijah. He was assigned to the 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Matthew D. Hunter, 31, of Valley Grove, W.Va.; sergeant, Army. Hunter was killed Monday when an improvised explosive device detonated near him while on foot patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Joshua A. Johnson, 24, of Richford, Vt.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Johnson was killed Wednesday when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his vehicle during combat in Ramadi, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment (Mountain), Army National Guard in Jericho, Vt.

Brian McElroy, 28, of San Antonio; staff sergeant, Air Force. McElroy was one of two airmen killed Jan. 22 when their armored Humvee struck an improvised explosive device while escorting a convoy near Taji, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Security Forces Squadron at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.

Sean H. Miles, 28, of Midlothian, Va.; sergeant, Marine Corps. Miles was killed Tuesday by small-arms fire during combat in Karmah, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Jason L. Norton, 32, of Miami, Okla.; technical sergeant, Air Force. Norton was one of two airmen killed Jan. 22 when their armored Humvee struck an improvised explosive device while escorting a convoy near Taji, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Security Forces Squadron at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.

Joshua A. Scott, 24, of Tunnel Hill, Ga.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Scott was one of two Marines killed Monday in a nonhostile vehicle accident near Taqaddum, west of Baghdad. Peter D. Wagler, 18, of Partridge, Kan.; private first class, Army. Wagler was one of two soldiers killed Monday when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Abrams tank while on patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Clifton J. Yazzie, 23, of Fruitland, N.M.; specialist, Army. Yazzie was among four soldiers killed Jan. 20 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Humvee while on patrol in the northern town of Hawijah. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Ky.
