at New York 6, Chicago 4: Mariano Rivera earned his 400th save, escaping two jams and getting six outs to preserve the victory. It was the Yankees’ first series sweep of the White Sox since May 2002. Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run homer and Derek Jeter connected for the first time in two months for the Yankees.

Oakland 8, at Boston 1: Joe Blanton held the Red Sox to five hits in seven innings and Mark Kotsay went four for five with three runs batted in for the Athletics, who took three of four from Boston and left the Red Sox with a lead of half a game over the Yankees in the American League East.

at Toronto 4, Seattle 3: Frank Catalanotto singled in the winning run in the 11th inning and the Blue Jays improved to 5-0 in extra innings despite a rare blown save by closer B.J. Ryan. Blue Jays third baseman Troy Glaus left because of a sore right knee. Glaus ran gingerly to first base and back to the dugout after grounding out in the third inning. Eric Hinske replaced him to start the fourth.

at Baltimore 4, Texas 0: Miguel Tejada and Nick Markakis homered, Melvin Mora had three hits and Rodrigo Lopez led a strong pitching performance by the Orioles. Gary Matthews Jr. had two hits for the Rangers, whose only run since the fourth inning of Friday night’s game came courtesy of an error.

at Minnesota 5, Cleveland 2: Rondell White hit his first home run of the season in his first game back from the disabled list. Luis Castillo and Michael Cuddyer also homered and Jason Tyner drove in two runs for the Twins, who won the last three of the four-game series to start the second half.
