U.S. District Judge Ronald Whyte slashed to $133.4 million from $307 million a damage award won by Rambus Inc. for patent infringement by Hynix Semiconductor Inc.

A federal court jury in April awarded Los Altos-based Rambus the $307 million, agreeing with its claim that South Korea-based Hynix infringed patents related to dynamic random access memory.

Rambus has 30 days to accept the lower amount, Whyte said, or the damages issue will be decided at a new trial.
