Sherman Banks on ‘Lianna

Share

Trainer Art Sherman has had a lot of successful claims in recent years, including crack sprinters Siren Lure, who recently became a Grade I winner, and Carthage.

Winning at a 27% rate so far in 2006, Sherman has another gem -- to a lesser extent, of course -- in Princess Lianna.

A 5-year-old American Chance mare, Princess Lianna has won four of six since being claimed for $20,000 by Sherman for a partnership Nov. 30 at Golden Gate Fields.

Princess Lianna will make her first appearance in this section of the state since Oct. 21 when she takes on seven others in the seventh race today at Del Mar.

This will be the first outing for the dark bay since she rallied from last in a field of six to win an optional claimer June 17 at Bay Meadows. That was her second victory in a row. She had won another optional claimer by a neck May 4 at Golden Gate Fields.

Alex Solis will ride the professional mare -- she has won seven of 20 in her lifetime -- in the $75,000 allowance at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Vikki’s Honor, a 4-year-old Bartok filly, is the one to beat. She has won four of 11 for trainer Adam Kitchingman and is facing softer after finishing third behind stakes winners Proposed and Somethinaboutlaura in the B. Thoughtful on April 30 at Hollywood Park.

Race of the day: Frances G, a five-length winner in her debut June 24 at Churchill Downs, will try Arlington Park today as she takes on seven opponents in the eighth race. Calvin Borel will ride the 2-year-old in the $33,000 allowance at six furlongs.

One for the road: Oneexcessivelad finished with interest in his debut going shorter June 29 and can beat a bad field in his second start in the eighth race today at Solano. Macario Rodriguez will ride the 3-year-old, who is adding Lasix, in the $8,000 maiden claimer at six furlongs.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Moonlit Habit, Sixcess and Touchdown U S C in the sixth, Vikki’s Honor and Nossa Cancao in the seventh and Seems To Me and Phar To Win in the eighth.

Winners: (previous day/meet total): 2/2. Money: (previous day/meet total): $10.80/$10.80. Total money bet: $18.
