He’s Sore, but Not a Quitter
I tore my bicep while playing rugby during Memorial Day weekend (“Needing to Know but Dreading the Answer,” by Rick Wartzman, From First and Spring, July 9). The surgery was the following week, and I’ve only recently been able to take the sling off and start physical therapy. I turn 45 this fall and expect a full recovery and to be back on the field at some point.
The question I keep getting in addition to Wartzman’s (“Aren’t you getting a little old for that?”) is “Shouldn’t you quit?” I’ve heard it so much that I now use the answer as my screen saver: “I will quit when they carry my cold, lifeless body from the pitch.”
