Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said Friday that the boyfriend of a high school art teacher whose body was found in Compton on May 23 is a “person of interest” in her death.

Marjorie Ann Robinson, 44, was last seen alive the afternoon of May 19, leaving South Gate High School, where she worked as a substitute teacher, Deputy Dana Camarillo said.

Robinson probably was headed for a nearby bus stop because she normally took a bus to work, Camarillo added.

Her boyfriend’s name has not been released to the public, Camarillo said, but sheriff’s deputies would like to speak with him.

Robinson, a 15-year resident of Compton, moved to California from New York, Camarillo said. She had no family nearby, and her body lay in an empty lot at Williams and Lindley streets for four days before it was discovered. No one reported her missing.

The coroner’s office has not yet determined the cause of death, Camarillo said, but Robinson was neither shot nor stabbed.

Anyone with information on her death is asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and ask to speak with Det. J. Romero at (323) 890-5608 or Det. G. Martinez at (323) 890-5553.
