First American Corp., the second-largest U.S. title insurer, was told by an Arizona jury to pay a damage award of $41.3 million in a claim of breach of fiduciary duty.

The Santa Ana-based company will incur an expense of about $25 million in the second quarter because of the judgment, according to a filing Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The jury award was made Wednesday in the case of Security Title vs. Linda Lorene Pope, the filing said. The company said it would appeal.
