Southern California was doused by cold showers Friday, but even as the rain receded weather forecasters were predicting another storm for next week.

Friday’s wet and windy weather did not cause any mudslides or flooding on the freeways, said California Highway Patrol Officer Vince Ramirez. About 200 traffic collisions were reported in Los Angeles County between 8 a.m. and noon, compared with 60 accidents last Friday, he said.

Forecasters said the next rainstorm should hit the Los Angeles Basin late Sunday or early Monday.

“It’s going to be a series of storms,” said Stuart Seto of the National Weather Service.

“This next one will last about three days. It’s a little bit stronger.”

Downtown Los Angeles received a quarter of an inch of rain Friday, coastal areas had between a quarter-inch and three-quarters of an inch, and the local valleys got nearly an inch.

Heavy snow advisories for mountain areas above 4,000 feet were canceled in the late afternoon, Seto said, although some resort areas received about 2 to 4 inches.

Last year, a total of 33.9 inches of rain fell on downtown L.A., making it the second-wettest year on record.

So far, 4.69 inches of rain have fallen on downtown this year, and 7.58 inches since July 1.
