Tour planned: The musical version of “The Color Purple” will take to the road next year, producers of the ongoing Broadway engagement have announced, starting with a seven-month stand in Chicago before eventually wending its way to L.A., where dates and a venue remain unspecified. The Chicago run begins in April 2007.

Music changes: Illness has caused changes in three Southland classical music programs this week. An ailing Martin Chalifour was forced to bow out of tonight’s Philharmonic Chamber Music Society concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall, which was to have commemorated his 10 years as the orchestra’s principal concertmaster. Also, conductor Kurt Masur is indisposed, so Osmo Vanska, music director of the Minnesota Orchestra, will conduct the London Philharmonic at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara on Wednesday and at UCLA’s Royce Hall on Thursday.
