Hopes for dance

Share

THANKS to Lewis Segal for his “Who Rules the Musical?” [March 5]. Having been passionate about dance and musical theater for almost the same amount of time as Graciela Daniele, I welcome your coverage of this glorious art form and its innovative director-choreographers. During the ‘70s and into the ‘80s, dance in Los Angeles was present and popular. We had the Joffrey Ballet and many visiting jazz and ballet companies. In recent years, however, that has seemed to evaporate, gone to Orange County and not come here at all.

With his reporting, I sense (and hope for) a resurgence in interest in dance. When I go to performances, I can feel the enthusiasm and appreciation of the audience. I hope this hunger for new musicals and revivals of old ones will be fed by these brilliant talents and will be a big part of the Los Angeles cultural scene.
