Arellano’s Name to Stay on School Board Ballot

Share

A school board candidate who withdrew from the race after lying about his credentials will remain on the June 6 ballot, the City Council voted Friday.

Christopher Arellano announced this week that he would no longer be running against Monica Garcia for the only open seat on the Los Angeles Board of Education. But the City Charter doesn’t provide for a candidate to drop out, and Arellano did not meet the state’s March 10 deadline for withdrawal. Arellano lost support after admitting that he lied about completing graduate degrees at USC and after reports that he had twice been convicted of shoplifting.
