Jagr Sets Rangers’ Points Mark in Win

Jaromir Jagr broke a tie with Hall of Famer Jean Ratelle for the New York Rangers’ single-season points record Wednesday night, assisting on four straight goals in a 5-1 victory over the host New York Islanders.

Jagr passed Ratelle at 7:23 of the first period, setting up Petr Prucha’s power-play goal for point No. 110. Jagr also assisted on Martin Straka’s three goals to help the Rangers move four points ahead of second-place Philadelphia in the Atlantic Division.

Vancouver 2, Minnesota 1 -- Anson Carter scored a power-play goal with 6.1 seconds left at home for the victorious Canucks.

After Vancouver failed to record a shot on its first four power plays, Daniel Sedin’s pass through the crease left Carter with an open net and his 30th goal of the season. The Canucks won for the fourth time in five games and are tied with the Ducks for sixth place in the Western Conference.

Chicago 3, St. Louis 2 -- Kyle Calder scored in overtime to lift the host Blackhawks over the Blues and end a five-game losing streak.

Calder won it at the 3:49 mark of the extra session after being left open at the right side of the St. Louis net. He took a pass from Duncan Keith and fired a shot past a sprawling Patrick Lalime.

Keith and Milan Bartovic also scored for the Blackhawks, who sent the Blues to their eighth straight loss.

Florida 5, Pittsburgh 3 -- Chris Gratton scored his 16th goal to lead the visiting Panthers to their seventh straight victory. Five players scored for the Panthers, who overcame the 400th career goal by the Penguins’ John LeClair. Florida is 10-1-1 in its last 12 games.

Buffalo 4, Boston 3 -- J.P. Dumont scored twice at home to help the Sabres end a six-game losing streak.

Chris Drury had a goal and assist and Maxim Afinogenov also scored for Buffalo, which twice squandered one-goal leads in the final 27 minutes. Daniel Briere had three assists and center Tim Connolly set up two in his return to the lineup after missing seven games with a sprained left knee.

Washington 5, Carolina 1 -- Rookie Alexander Ovechkin got his 48th goal of the season, Matt Bradley scored twice and backup goaltender Brent Johnson stopped 49 shots to help the Capitals beat the Hurricanes at Raleigh, N.C.

Washington won consecutive games for the first time in three weeks.
