The Peppers are ready for the Roast

The desert dust hasn’t even settled from the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, but get ready for the next big all-hands-on-deck rock show.

The lineup for the KROQ-FM (106.7) Weenie Roast y Fiesta on May 13 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre will be announced today. The bill is topped by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and a gaggle of acts who ran through that other show in Indio this past weekend: devout rapper Matisyahu, the sinister-styled She Wants Revenge, Jamaican royal Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and (on the second stage) Wolfmother, the Aussie hard-rock throwbacks who pretty much stole the show Saturday at Coachella.

The Peppers are coming back to the scene in major fashion. In addition to their tour, which will include dates with the intriguing opening act of Kanye West, the funk-rock heroes are also headlining the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago in August and the Voodoo Music Experience festival in New Orleans in October.

That takes them to the Midwest and the Big Easy, but the band’s own comfortable heartland is, of course, L.A., so expect an especially intense reception for their new single, “Dani California,” off the new album “Stadium Arcadium.” (The song, by the way, is about a girl, not about the state, but don’t expect that to deter a local pride singalong of the chorus, “California rest in peace.”) The two-CD, 28-song album hits stores May 9 and is expected to debut at the top of the national sales charts.

Tickets for the Weenie Roast go on sale at 5 p.m. Friday and proceeds will benefit Heal the Bay, the Surfrider Foundation and AIDS Walk Orange County.

Also on the bill: Dashboard Confessional, Angels & Airwaves, Rob Zombie, Panic! at the Disco, HIM, Atreyu, Matchbook Romance, the Academy Is ... and Taking Back Sunday.
