Los Feliz Brown Derby Is Historic Monument

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The old Brown Derby restaurant in Los Feliz was declared a historic and cultural monument Friday by a 10-0 vote of the City Council.

The declaration means that any changes to the site or plans for the building’s demolition would encounter a difficult approval process at City Hall. The building, one of the four original Brown Derby restaurants, was erected in 1929.

A developer has proposed a mixed-use project for the site. Although that proposal would preserve most of the building, neighbors and preservationists want the entire structure saved.
