Chivas USA Can’t Stop Red Bulls, 5-4

Jean Philippe Peguero had his first career hat trick and Seth Stammler scored two goals to lead the New York Red Bulls to their first victory of the season, 5-4, over Chivas USA on Saturday at East Rutherford, N.J.

Peguero scored twice in the first half and had the Red Bulls’ last goal in the 89th minute. Stammler scored twice in the second half for New York, which had one loss and five ties in its first six games.

Ante Razov, who played for New York last season, and Juan Francisco Palencia scored two goals apiece for Chivas (1-4-1).

The Red Bulls (1-1-5) played without midfielder Amado Guevara, who was suspended for one game for leaving the field and sitting in the stands after being taken out by Coach Mo Johnston during a game against Chicago last weekend.

Guevara sat in the stands behind the Red Bulls bench Saturday. He’s eligible to return Wednesday when New York faces FC Dallas. Guevara had New York’s last hat trick in a game against Chivas USA last August.

The Red Bulls equaled their entire goal output for the season’s first six games against Chivas USA, a team they played to a scoreless tie three weeks ago at the Home Depot Center.

Columbus 1, D.C. United 1 -- Former Galaxy forward Joseph Ngwenya scored his first goal for the Crew (3-3-2) and Christian Gomez had one for United (4-1-3) in a tie at Columbus, Ohio.

Ngwenya’s goal in the 23rd minute was his first since September 2004.

Real Salt Lake 2, Kansas City 1 -- Rookie midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy’s goal in the 78th minute tied it, and a goal by substitute Jeff Cunningham in the 80th was the game-winner for host Salt Lake (2-5-1) against the Wizards (4-3-1).

FC Dallas 4, New England 0 -- Carlos Ruiz scored two goals and had an assist to lead Dallas (5-1-3) over the Revolution (3-3-1) at Frisco, Texas. Dallas set an MLS record by scoring four times in the first 19 minutes.

Chicago 1, Houston 0 -- Thiago scored early in the second half to give the Fire (2-1-4) a victory over the host Dynamo (4-3-1).
