From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Five of the 25 contractors providing gang-prevention services for middle school students under the L.A. Bridges program were briefly put on probation this year because of performance problems, and one has been terminated, according to a report.

The city of Los Angeles funds the program. It terminated its contract with Martin Luther King Legacy Assn. because of fiscal problems that included nonpayment of state and federal taxes.

Five other contractors were placed on probation earlier in the year but have since been restored to compliance status, according to the report to the City Council.
