A storm system dropped 4 inches of snow Saturday on higher elevations around Lake Tahoe, and more snow was on the way.

Scott McGuire, a National Weather Service forecaster in Reno, said systems also were expected to bring snow to the region Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

“We’re kind of hanging tight right now on how much snow we’ll be getting out of them,” McGuire said. “But the seasons are transitioning. We’re getting” toward winter.

Chains or snow tires were required on a portion of California 88 west of Carson Pass, but other highways remained open with no restrictions.

Alpine Meadows ski resort just north of Lake Tahoe reported 4 inches of snow Saturday. Like other area resorts, it’s hoping for more snow to make its traditional opening by Thanksgiving Day.

The latest system was accompanied by winds of up to 116 mph at Slide Mountain above Reno and 63 mph in Reno, according to the weather service.
