Loyola hits an early with a big loss

Loyola Marymount had its worst offensive night in 57 years, losing, 61-37, Monday to Mississippi State at Starkville, Miss.

It was the lowest scoring game for the Lions (1-1) since finishing with 29 points against USC in 1949.

Brandon Worthy had 11 points for Loyola, which made only 12 of 58 shots. Barry Stewart scored 13 for the Bulldogs (2-0).

Northern Iowa 83, Pepperdine 58 -- The Waves (0-2) went 8:14 of the second half without a field goal, trailed by as many as 35 points and were outrebounded, 41-18, in the Basketball Travelers Classic at Seattle.

Travis Brown had 16 points for the Panthers (2-0). Marvin Lea had 22 points for Pepperdine.

UC Santa Barbara 88, Montana State 56 -- Alex Harris had 21 points and the Gauchos (2-0) took a 19-1 lead less than four minutes into the game on the way to winning big at Bozeman, Mont. Casey Durham had 13 points for the Bobcats (0-2).
