United Talent hires executive to focus on Web

In an attempt to adapt to changes in the entertainment industry resulting from digital technologies, United Talent Agency has hired veteran television executive Adam Ware as head of business development to help the agency seek out new media opportunities for its clients.

Ware said he would help showcase the work of the agency’s artists by identifying emerging distribution outlets beyond the established online players such as AOL, Apple Computer Inc.’s iTunes and YouTube.

Ware plans to focus on the vast middle ground between the outlets that the television networks and film studios use to distribute content online, and forums such as YouTube or Break.com that attract amateur video. He’ll cultivate these outlets through investments and partnerships.

United Talent Agency board member Jeremy Zimmer said the agency needed to play a role in developing new markets for its clients and help them connect to their audiences. Ware will work with Brent Weinstein, who heads a new division that represents online talent.

Ware has served as chief operating officer at Viacom Inc.’s United Paramount Network, as executive vice president at Barry Diller’s InterActiveCorp and as a senior vice president of network distribution at Fox Broadcasting Co.
