SNOOP DOGG is back on the charts and back in trouble. The rapper and convicted felon posted bail early Wednesday morning after his arrest in Burbank on suspicion of drug possession and a weapon violation. His new CD, “Tha Blue Carpet Treatment,” also premiered Wednesday in the Top 10 of the nation’s pop charts.

Snoop and two members of his entourage were taken into custody early Tuesday evening as they left NBC studios, where the rapper had just taped a performance of a new song for “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.” The next time the star appeared on camera was 1 a.m. Wednesday, when television crews were waiting for him at the exit of the Burbank jail. The 35-year-old rapper was wearing a USC tracksuit and a football jersey bearing Dwayne Jarrett’s No. 8 as he made his way to a waiting sedan.

Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, has a long history of legal troubles, most notably a 1996 murder trail that ended in acquittal. He was arrested Sept. 27 at John Wayne Airport in Orange County on suspicion of carrying a deadly weapon, specifically a collapsible baton in his carry-on bag. On Oct. 26, he was arrested at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank after police said they found marijuana and a gun in his car. The Burbank incident led to follow-up search warrants for Snoop’s home in Diamond Bar and his car; those searches were conducted Tuesday and led to the latest arrest. Police say they seized a handgun and drugs.

“I think he is under a microscope at this point,” his attorney, Donald Etra, said Wednesday.
