Fashion Awards save a few seats for the public

Among the subjective measures of the success of Los Angeles Fashion Week is this: a crackdown.

Planners for the runway shows at Smashbox Studios in Culver City and related events are reporting RSVPs hundreds in excess of capacity, of begging requests for dozens of tickets and strict invitation-only warnings to would-be crashers. So say you’re a dedicated follower of fashion and you must have a seat of your own to the action?

On Friday, the Los Angeles Fashion Awards will cap the five-day run of spring 2007 shows with a gala that includes red carpet arrivals, a wine tasting, an award program for fashion innovators, a fashion presentation and a VIP after-party.

Though orchestra level seating is by invitation only, the public may buy balcony and mezzanine seats at Ticketmaster ticket centers, including Tower Records, Wherehouse Music and Ritmo Latino Stores, and online at www.Ticketmaster.com. Tickets, which cost from $35 to $65, also can be purchased by phone at (213) 480-3232 or at the door, 819 Santee St. For more information, visit www.lafashionawards.com.

This week, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Museum and Galleries unveils its newest exhibit, the Annette Green Perfume Museum, a permanent, second-floor exhibit of fragrance bottles and ephemera from 1890 to 2005. A companion exhibit of related fashions from the FIDM permanent collection will illustrate phases of perfume evolution through clothes.

The perfume museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. The companion fashion exhibit runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Dec. 2 at the museum at 919 S. Grand Ave., in downtown Los Angeles.
