USC Senior Booked on Weapon Charge
A USC senior who allegedly displayed a knife in class this week and taunted a classmate and their professor has been booked on a felony charge of possession of a deadly weapon on school property, authorities said.
The student, Duane Yoshimits Tanaka, 26, was taken into custody by police and held on $20,000 bail. Tanaka allegedly brandished the knife blade of his Leatherman multipurpose tool in a psychology class Tuesday.
A spokesman for the USC public safety office, which turned the case over to Los Angeles police for investigation, said Tanaka has been suspended pending the outcome of the LAPD probe.
