Record vs. Wizards -- 1-0.

Update -- In last place in the Western Conference with seven regular-season games left, the Galaxy needs the victory after losing, 1-0, at Real Salt Lake on Wednesday. But the previously in-limbo Wizards were boosted Thursday by Lamar Hunt’s sale of the team to a local group that will keep it in Kansas City and also plans to build a stadium for the team. All the same, making the playoffs will be a challenge for Coach Brian Bliss’ fourth-place squad, which has only six games left, two fewer than the other teams in contention in the Eastern Conference. Already without Jimmy Conrad (broken jaw), the Wizards lost another starting defender Wednesday when Nick Garcia suffered a groin strain in a 2-2 tie with the New York Red Bulls. The Galaxy will be without defender Ugo Ihemelu, serving the second game of a two-game suspension. A tie or a loss by Kansas City will clinch a playoff spot for first-place D.C. United, which plays Chivas USA in Carson on Sunday. Galaxy midfielder Peter Vagenas, who sat out the Real Salt Lake game because of a left hip injury, is expected to return.
