Goldberg’s defense of president is misguided

Re “Give Bush a break,” Opinion, Aug. 31

The litany of excuses Jonah Goldberg comes up with for President Bush is unbelievable. The federal government could have responded better to Hurricane Katrina? It could have responded at all! We all saw a pre-hurricane video of Bush declaring he had faith that then-FEMA Director Michael D. Brown and his disaster team were ready when they were being told by experts that it just wasn’t true. Faith over facts -- the motto of this administration.

And John Kerry would be worse than Bush? How? How is it possible for anyone to be worse than this inept regime?

Goldberg’s anemic defense of the president reminds me of the old Richard Pryor bit: A woman walks in on her husband in bed with another woman. He says to his wife, “Are you going to believe me or your lying eyes?”
