An Orange County sheriff’s deputy was credited Sunday with rescuing a cabdriver from his burning car after it crashed into two parked cars, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Kerry Hogan, 57, was pulled unconscious from his car by Deputy Josh Brass. The officer cut Hogan’s seat belt and freed him while the car was in flames, said a sheriff’s spokesman.

Hogan crashed the cab near Otero and Pasto Redondo about 8:25 a.m., said Jim Amormino, a sheriff’s spokesman.

Whether the accelerator got stuck or the driver kept his foot on the gas was unknown.

But the tires’ rubber eventually wore off, causing the wheels to cut into the asphalt and create sparks and heat that ignited the fire, Amormino said.

The driver, who had minor injuries, was taken to a hospital for observation.

The accident was under investigation.
