TV season spoiled

Share

ONE would think that since the cover story was about DVD fans of television shows [“TV, Straight Up,” Aug. 27], that would have given your editors pause when it comes to revealing key plot points in TV series’ DVDs. Yet there it was in the second paragraph in the article about “24’s” director, Jon Cassar [“Only ‘24’ Hours in a Day,” Aug. 27]: a glaring spoiler giving away a major development from the start of the fifth season of “24.”

To add insult to stupidity, that season is not even on DVD yet. Hence, The Times cannot claim that it is reasonable to assume everyone but the most casual of the show’s viewers were aware of this shocker. In light of the fact that The Times had put forth the fact that many people are now watching shows solely on DVD as the cover story, this particular spoiler looks egregiously idiotic.

Schizophrenia, thy name is the L.A. Times.

Could there be a better illustration of not only The Times’ ongoing refusal to abide by new media protocols regarding the issue of “spoilers,” but its lack of editorial cohesion?
