The 58th annual Frankfurt Book Fair turns the spotlight on Indian literature this year, the highlight of the event that has attracted booksellers and publishers from about 100 countries.

About 7,000 exhibitors are expected this year for the fair, which runs from Oct. 4 to 8, director Juergen Boos said.

Indian authors including Vikram Seth and Amitav Ghosh are expected to be on hand, said Nuzhat Hassan, who is organizing the special exhibit this year.

About 150 Indian publishers are also expected to attend.

Besides readings from Indian authors, the fair will include films, exhibits and Indian food to give attendees an insight into contemporary Indian culture.

Boos said the number of Asian publishers is especially high this year.

Many Latin American and southeastern European publishing houses are also expected to attend, he said.

Last year’s fair, with more than 7,220 exhibitors from 101 countries, focused on Korean literature. The fair has been held annually since 1949.
