After 16 years and more than 300 concerts, John Mauceri will step down this weekend as Hollywood Bowl Orchestra director, a position and an orchestra created for him by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Assn. in 1991. Anybody who’s been to a Mauceri concert knows that there’s more to the show than the music itself. He always spins out introductory remarks that are captivating and informative, and that’s been part of the reason he built a devoted following. Some of his fans will be there to share the stage, including such Muppet stars as Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. Tony Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth will sing Broadway hits, and members of the Joffrey Ballet will dance Nijinsky’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.” Composers Richard Rodney Bennett, Danny Elfman and Adam Guettel have written pieces for the occasion. There will be fireworks too. Mauceri will be back, with his new title of founding director of the HBO, although no specific dates have been set.

Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood. 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Sunday. $5 to $111. (323) 850-2000. www.HollywoodBowl.com
