Bryans Win, but U.S. Is Still in a Hole
The United States won the doubles Saturday to stay alive in its Davis Cup semifinal against Russia. But the Americans still face an uphill battle at Moscow, trailing, 2-1, heading into today’s reverse singles.
Andy Roddick and James Blake must win today for the U.S. to advance to the final in December against Argentina, which built an insurmountable 3-0 lead over Australia at Buenos Aires.
Roddick is scheduled to play Mikhail Youzhny today, but clay-court specialist Nikolay Davydenko is also an option for Russia. Blake is to play Marat Safin.
Twins Bob and Mike Bryan of Camarillo kept U.S. hopes alive Saturday with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Dmitry Tursunov and Youzhny.

Top-ranked Amelie Mauresmo beat Jelena Jankovic, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (3), to advance to the final of the China Open at Beijing. Second-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated Peng Shuai of China, 6-0, 6-2, in the other semifinal.

Top-seeded Martina Hingis routed Sania Mirza of India, 6-1, 6-0, to reach the final of the Sunfeast Open at Kolkata, India. She will play Olga Poutchkova, who beat Iroda Tulyaganova, 6-4, 6-4.
