A hint of Cocoanut

J.D. Iriarte is one of Hollywood nightlife’s best kept secrets. That’s because the owner of A-List Eventz can keep a secret. The nightlife promoter has been tossing soirees for the likes of Val Kilmer, Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Evans for years. And now Iriarte has teamed up with Mark Fleischman (Century Club/Tatou/Studio 54) to open a club at the old Glam Slam/Vertigo location at 333 Boylston in downtown L.A. Calling it Tatou after Fleischman’s legendary Beverly Hills nightclub, this time it’s got a twist of coconut. The two are paying homage to the Cocoanut Grove (R.I.P.), the famed haunt at the old Ambassador Hotel. Look for a soft opening in mid-November and a splashier one after the first of the year.... After a six-month sabbatical following the March departure of promoter Amanda Scheer-Demme, the Roosevelt Hotel’s much-discussed Teddy’s reopened its doors this week with a low-key, word-of-mouth gathering. Now promoted by the Alliance, the intimate spot will be open Wednesday through Saturday.... And Sam Nazarian and Brent Bolthouse’s latest hotspot, Area, has its gala invitation-only opening tonight. But the site, located at the home of the former Prey, had a sneak peek party last Thursday when Christina Aguilera, Slash, Carmen Electra, Kristen Bell and more came out for Us Weekly’s Fresh 15 bash.

She rolls in hot pink

We hear owner Lonnie Moore’s new muse is DJ Lady Tribe, who now spins each week at Les Deux Cafe on Thursday. And the lady’s got style: She rolls up in a hot pink Escalade and a gorgeous girl roadie does all the heavy lifting.... And speaking of Lady Tribe, her latest gig is with Xenii, Michael Sutton’s floating private after-hours club. Last week, Lil Jon, Too Short, Jamie Foxx and Shock G from Digital Underground were in the Xenii house. Located on a film lot last week, they were awaiting a performance by Janet Jackson (who kept it low-profile all night).

Punker reunion

Last Tuesday’s “American Hardcore” film premiere party at the Vista in Los Feliz brought out No Doubt, TSOL, Black Flag and even Mike Patton, the original punker from Middle Class who preceded them all.... Mr. Damnit, the devilish looking bartender from Saints & Sinners in Culver City, MC’d the Summer Strummer festival at Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station.... Bedroom rock star alert: Sammy Serious, who runs the OP Hotel in Santa Monica next door to the OP Cafe (which was just purchased by the folks who own the Hideout), slipped me his latest album, “Last Stop OP Hotel,” which contains the best tribute to Rubenesque people I’ve ever heard (“I May Be Fat but I’m Still Better Looking Than You.”).... Punk/skate veteran Duane Peters posed for photos backstage at the Echo on Tuesday with the young psychobilly band Los Difuntos, who earned an opening slot on the upcoming TSOL/Rancid tour. Peters’ wife, Corey Parks, was lighting up the Echo with her new band Charley Horse, featuring frontman Sean Wheeler from Throwrag and drummer Dino from the Hangmen.
