A coyote wandered into a Quiznos sandwich shop in downtown Chicago on Tuesday, startling customers and drawing a picture-taking crowd.

There were about half a dozen customers and employees in the shop, restaurant manager Bina Patel said.

“It was kind of like a medium-sized dog,” Patel said.

He said the customers calmly walked out as the coyote plopped down in front of the soda cooler.

“It wasn’t aggressive at all,” Patel said. “It was just looking around. There were people outside taking pictures. We had a pretty big crowd looking in and taking pictures.”

Animal control officers picked up the 1-year-old male.

The city captures 10 to 15 coyotes a year, especially in the spring, said Anne Kent of Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Veterinarians will examine the coyote and, if he is not injured, release him into the wild.
