Betty Ford recuperating from unspecified surgery
Former First Lady Betty Ford is recovering from surgery at a local hospital, the office of the late President Gerald Ford said Thursday. She turns 89 on Sunday.
The unspecified surgery occurred earlier this week, and she was “recovering well” at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, the Associated Press reported. No other information was released.
The first lady from 1974 to 1977, she earned wide respect for her frankness as she battled breast cancer, arthritis and addictions to drugs and alcohol.
The former president died Dec. 26 at age 93.
