* at Texas 2, Boston 0: Sammy Sosa’s run-scoring single on a checked swing in the first inning helped the Rangers win their home opener. After being swept in a season-opening three-game series by the Angels, the Rangers finally gave rookie Manager Ron Washington his first victory.
* at Kansas City 3, Detroit 1: Justin Verlander, who was 3-0 with an 0.86 earned-run average against the Royals, pitched six innings and gave up two hits and an unearned run. He was replaced by Jose Mesa, who yielded a double to Jason LaRue, Tony Pena’s triple and a run-scoring single to David DeJesus.
* at Tampa Bay 6, Toronto 5: Delmon Young tied the score at 5-5 in the ninth with a two-run homer off B.J. Ryan. Akinori Iwamura bunted safely, took third on Elijah Dukes’ two-out single and scored the winning run on B.J. Upton’s grounder.
* Baltimore 6, at New York 4: Mike Mussina was roughed up in his season debut, and the Orioles’ revamped bullpen succeeded in its first chance to protect a late lead.
* Seattle at Cleveland: The Indians led their home opener, 4-0, in the fifth inning when it was postponed because of snow. It will be made up today as part of a doubleheader.
* Minnesota at Chicago: The game was postponed because of cold rain and wind. A makeup date has not been set.
* at Angels 5, Oakland 2: Rookie Dustin Moseley gave up a run and five hits in six-plus innings for the Angels.
