Former Port of Los Angeles official Stacey Jones was fined $5,000 on Tuesday by the city Ethics Commission for negotiating employment with a firm that was competing for a $6.89-million engineering contract with the port.

Jones never went to work for the firm -- Moffatt & Nichol -- and new bids were submitted for the contract for a marina at the port, according to the commission. Moffatt & Nichol was fined $4,500 by the commission.
